Rural Agricultural Work Experience: 2019 Batch (December 2022 – March 2023)

            The students of 2019     batch were placed in various villages under Arakkonam, Nemili, Walajabath, Thiruvalangadu, Kadambattur and Thiruvallurblocks of Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Ranipet districts of Tamil Nadu.

            During RAWE, students have interacted with the farmers, farm women, rural people, rural youth and self help groups and also scientists of research stations, subject matter specialists of KVK, officials of allied departments, financial institutions, NGOs and agro-based industries in order to blend their theoretical knowledge with practical life to have realistic experiences in the concerned field.

           Students under took farm visits to study different practices of field crops and horticultural crops, plant breeding, plant physiology, soil health management and farm mechanization and conducted yield / technical gap analysis. Students participated in the farmers training / meeting, conducted by the agriculture department and private organisations. During the RWAE programme, students did more than 35 demonstrations on farming aspects, including organic farming, hydroponic farming and Drone technology. They have visited the farmers in the field and observed farming activities, pests and diseases. Students gathered more technical / local wisdom from the farmers and rural artisans.

NGO Attachment:

            Students also have undergone attachment with Non-Government Organizations (NGO’s) for 5 days from 16.02.2023 to 20.02.2023, to study in depth about their functioning. Six girls’ group and five boy’s groups were placed in NGOs the neighboring districts viz., Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Ranipet.

Agro-Industrial tie- up programme:

            In order to provide entrepreneurial experience, students were attached with different agro-based industries like the food processing industry, biogas units, milk processing units, modern rice mills, sugar mills and vegetable and fruit processing units for 5 days from 21.02.2023 to 25.02.2023.

RAWE Programme Outcome:

            During the RAWE programme, students practiced PRA, preparation village maps, designed survey forms, gathered primary, secondary socio- economic data, conducted yield gap analysis, training needs assessments and also conducted method demonstration, field meeting and village exhibition. Students have learned many things in the farmer field which includes traditional farming, organic farming and climate smart agriculture technologies and also learned about latest Drone Technology and hydroponic farming techniques.

            As a part of their social responsibility, they were involved in farming “Farmers group”, creating awareness about hygiene, social rights, women’s day, pongal festival, sports events for school children and street show for motivation and social media development for transfer of knowledge and techniques.

 

RAWE STUDENTS FIELD ACTIVITIES

  

During the RAWE, students visited various rural institutions like VAO office, AO, ADA office, FPO and KVK.

  

Students organized farmers meeting; government officials and college staff participated in the programme.

Students involved in various farming activities like transplanting and weeding in the farmer's field

 

Students did demonstrations on solar light traps, fish amino acid spraying, and climate-suitable farming methods

 

Farmer’s day was conducted at our campus. Ranipet district JDA visited and inaugurated the exhibition hall and interacted with students, farmers, and college visitors.
